The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Newman Not Related To Victor – Wayne Knight Appears

Wayne Knight (Irv West) played an iconic character on Seinfeld long before he appeared on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Knight’s alter ego, Newman, was Jerry’s (Jerry Seinfeld) nemesis. Now, as Irv, he’s a music promoter who isn’t related to the Newman clan in any way. Wink.

The escort Irv entered The Underground with works for Zack’s (Ryan Ashton) criminal ring. The Irv character was obviously used as a way to further that plot point, while also advancing a few others.

Devon (Bryton James) connected Noah (Robert Adamson) to Irv as a way to help him further the nightclub’s expansion plans across the United States. Knight’s character is a big name in the back office entertainment world. His connections will hopefully allow famous acts to be booked at new versions of The Underground.

Tessa’s (Cait Fairbanks) burgeoning music career appears ready to be supercharged by the efforts her boyfriend is making. Combine that with Devon’s belief in her talent and the deal she inked with the Hamilton-Winters’ streaming service division and Tessa’s songs could easily become top downloads in the near future.

Of course, the placement of the escort in Irv’s scene links to the Crystal (Morgan Obenreder) situation. Tessa’s embattled sister was just recently flown out of Genoa City by Zack because he felt she was too much of a liability to his newly formed underworld business. What happens to Crystal from this point forward and how that affects Tessa’s desire to purely pursue her music career remains to be seen.

Countless non-daytime stars have appeared on Y&R, along with many other soap operas through the years. So it’s cool to see Knight on the Genoa City set. The veteran Hollywood actor’s career began in 1979.

Knight’s Newman character was beloved by many, but some viewers may also fondly recall his role as Officer Don on 3rd Rock from the Sun. Knight was performing double duty for a time in the mid-90’s, as both NBC nighttime sitcoms (Seinfeld and 3rd Rock from the Sun) were both running from 1996-1998.
