‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Mariah Becomes Devon’s Sounding Board – Relationship Potential Deepens

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Mariah Becomes Devon's Sounding Board – Relationship Potential DeepensUntil this point Mariah (Camryn Grimes) has been Devon’s (Bryton James) employee on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He asked her to serve as Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) neutralizer awhile ago. That caused both women to clash, as expected. Now that ‘Hevon’ is truly ending ‘Mevon’ has also become possible.

Devon finally realized that he had to move forward with his life. Hilary seemingly has done the same thing, though money issues might complicate the technicalities of their actual legal slice. However, it does seem like Y&R wants both characters to explore new territory and thus ‘Hevon’ is over.

Mariah and Devon are two good souls. Grimes’ character initially was defensive, was was similar to Devon’s demeanor upon his arrival in Genoa City. While Devon was an older teenager and Mariah was a young adult, both characters lived behind walls based upon their childhood experiences. Today, each person is fully likeable.

James has turned in consistently solid work since his debut in 2004. His character’s growth through varied arcs has been impressive. Like any enduring soap opera persona, Devon has built a fan base through compelling storylines and because of the talent the actor inside him projects.

Grimes return to the cast was welcomed in 2014, but her second character was obviously a gamble. Y&R knew from the jump that asking a loyal audience to accept Cassie’s twin (Mariah) was plausible soap fodder. However, the test was whether Grimes could make her new persona work.

Her initial performance as a child actor from 1997-2005 was arguably the best by any non-adult thespian in Y&R’s history. That pedigree didn’t hamstring Grimes when Mariah first appeared, but it did serve as a weighty comparison.

The use of the past tense in the last sentence exists because Mariah is seen whenever Grimes enters the scene, instead of Cassie in adult form. The time gap between Cassie’s death (even including her multiple angelic return visits) and Mariah’s entrance as an adult helped to distinguish the characters, but Grimes’ talent itself serves as the decisive factor.

All points noted about James and Grimes combine to make the potential romantic connection between their characters an intriguing possibility. There is a potential relationship match based upon shared personality points and personal histories.
