Jill (Jess Walton) reconciled with Colin (Tristan Rogers) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. In this soap world, as in life, the dearly departed are never truly gone. So, a letter written by Katherine (Jeanne Cooper) four years ago and a ring bought by Phillip (Donnelly Rhodes) more than four decades ago impacted Y&R in 2017.

Colin was prepared to return to Australia. He went to the Chancellor mansion to announce defeat and let Jill go. However his wife’s epiphany changed his plans. Locating Katherine’s music box, which led to the previously undiscovered letter and aforementioned ring, proved to be a godsend in Jill’s mind. The circumstances caused her to forgive the man she loves, while still acknowledging his flaws. That was a believable resolution to this mini-arc.
Tenured viewers didn’t feel that the initial plot points that involved Katherine’s music box were complete when first presented in 2013. Yes, the box led Jill to go on a journey and reconnect with Colin. But extending the story, by including a lock box key which led to the letter and ring, is exactly the type of puzzle Katherine would have created for her long-time nemesis and eventual confidant.
Warm-hearted fans likely enjoyed this throwback storyline that played out in Genoa City. Recent scenes that showed Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Chancellor, along with a series of touching scenes involving the ‘Duchess’ struck a deep chord. Great daytime drama that evoked emotion and also linked to modern times.

Y&R’s hardcore audience was hoping that Sally Sussman’s team would rewrite the show back to what it had been ages ago. In this scribe’s opinion, that’s happened. Realistic assessments of anything aren’t stepped in romanticized ideas of what yesteryear was, or stubborn stances that often seem concocted and must be furthered in order to justify an original rant. Revealing evidence that unmasks the haughty involves statements that are never positive, or offer back-handed compliments.
Jill’s link to Katherine continues, which is surely something many viewers can relate to when they think about many of the influential souls who they’ve known in their lives. Colin regained love and a chance to be a better guy. Yes, this was a great storyline. Kudos to all involved.
