Jack (Peter Bergman) respects Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That alone makes him different than Victor (Eric Braeden), who can’t compete with his longtime nemesis right now.
One of the more striking and contrasting visuals is Nikki’s smile when she sees Jack, as compared to the pained press that’s forced onto her face when she’s with Victor or is referencing him. Of course, Nikki loves her husband. But at this point in ‘Niktor’ history, another respite seems in order for both sides.
Nikki’s turn back to Jack, her one-time spouse, makes total sense. More than a work husband, a guy who’s almost always relegated to the friend-only zone, Jack stands a real chance to become Nikki’s next spouse.
Yes, Mr. Abbott has a secondary agenda. He sensed an opportunity to move in on the ‘Moustache’s’ weakness and pursued it. ‘Niktor’ appeared to be in trouble and was. Then, when Nikki reached out to Jack, he took her hand. But Jack actually does care for Nikki.
Phyllis (as played by Michelle Stafford and Gina Tognoni) has long been his one true love. But he chose to sever ties with her after ‘Philly’ happened. Since she’s still with Billy (Jason Thompson) there’s no realistic opportunity for ‘Phack’ to be revived. So Jack has emotionally data mined the past and concluded that Nikki is worth pursuing right now.

The Abbott cabin is an interesting alternative setting, as compared to the urban scene in Genoa City. Jack was smart in whisking Nikki to his family’s rustic source of solace. The fishing pole scenes, in particular, added a light-hearted flair to the seemingly reemerging relationship that should be called ‘Jikki’.
Victor’s paid detectives are keeping an eye on his wife, which may impact Nikki’s ability to seek a permanent separation on her terms. But with however that happens, Jack seems to be her next man.

Jack’s genuine feelings for Nikki make him a threat to Victor, who knows that his wife isn’t open to reconciliation. Victor’s vindictiveness will roil ‘Jikki’, but doesn’t seem likely to stop this couple from reforming.
