The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Jack and Gloria Endure – Faux Couple Grows On Fans

Know-it-alls on ‘The Young and the Restless’ are often surprised. But savvy viewers keep open minds. That sizable group of soapy devotees didn’t instantly reject the idea that ‘Glack’ could resonate. Yes, many fans have come to understand why Gloria (Judith Chapman) and Jack (Peter Bergman) became a match.

Many viewers will honestly admit that there are plenty of couples in this fictional world that just didn’t, or don’t seem to make sense.

Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sage (Kelly Sullivan), Kevin (Greg Rikaart) and Mariah (Camryn Grimes), Sharon (Sharon Case) and Dylan (Steve Burton), Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), among others. However, the pairs that were referenced didn’t have a deep hostility history before forming, or enduring.

Yes, 2000’s Gloria, who was married to John Abbott Senior (Jerry Douglas), would never have pursued ‘Jackie-boy’. And ‘Smilin’ Jack’ was all about Phyllis, among others, during that decade. Plus, he thought his unwanted, two-time ex-mother-in-law was a gold-digger. He actually used the legal system to deny her one penny of his father’s estate as well.

So how have these now-single characters, who were born within two years of each other (well, at least the actors who play them hold that time mark, Chapman (1951), Bergman (1953), become genuinely interested in each other as of 2017? Circumstance, proximity and chemistry provide at least three answers.

Gloria was abandoned by Jeffrey (Ted Shackelford) prior to her return to Wisconsin in December. Jack learned that Tognoni’s Daytime Emmy Award-winning edition of Phyllis betrayed him in recent months. Being adrift, both big personalities initially used each other for business reasons. But then chemistry took hold as well.

Easily one of the most astonishing pairings in recent memory, Y&R deserves deep kudos for not only taking this writing risk, but for making it believable. When compared to other real life couples viewers know in their actual lives, ‘Glack’ probably isn’t that far-fetched. And even if this duo is unlikely, it’s surely great fun for all light-hearted fans.
