Dina (Marla Adams) had enough of Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) attitude on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Since she’s no longer a little girl, Mrs. Mergeron couldn’t send Miss Abbott to her room. Instead, Dina dug deep into her daughter’s backstory. Yes, the reference to Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) paternity is relevant in this instance.

Y&R used two longstanding soap opera plot vehicles this week. Characters referenced the past in order to provide memory refreshers to longtime viewers who might not have remembered what happened way back when.
Newer viewers also were offered a history lesson as a result. That tack was coupled with a flashback scene where Victor (Eric Braeden) listened as Ashley spoke about her own paternity.
Redemption is Dina’s quest. She’s in the final stage of her life and wants to achieve some type of relationship with the children she estranged. As for Adams, she looks great at 78. Her efforts as Dina are nicely helping to push Abbott family matters forward.
Jack (Peter Bergman) is open to dialogue. Traci (Beth Maitland) hasn’t been seen yet, but hopefully will be. As for Ashley, she’s still mad at mommy.
It’s harsh to purely tag Davidson’s character as some type of bitter teenage girl who has been grounded. However, after Dina spoke with Victor a purposeful point in Y&R’s plot history was raised.
Ashley passed off Brad Carlton (Don Diamont) as Abby’s father for years. Tenured soap fans know that Diamont played Brad from 1985-2009, when he was killed off in a memorable write-out. That happened so the actor could transition to The Bold and the Beautiful, where he’s played Bill Spencer ever since.
Victor told Dina that he and Ashley came to have a close relationship after he learned that Abby was his biological child. So, the ‘Moustache’ took Dina’s request to heart and spoke to Ashley on her behalf. The strategic relevance of him doing so made an impact.
Dina certainly was prepared for resistance when she arrived in Genoa City. But the hope is that all three of her children will come around. Ashley is the emotional linchpin. Winning her over, or at least reaching some type of understanding will go a long way toward reconciliation with all Abbott family members.
