Kevin (Greg Rikaart) see’s Chloe’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) hand open her own casket on ‘The Young and the Restless’ and then faints. This better prove to be a daydream, a nightmare or some other such thing. Because if it’s not then this plot point went way, way overboard. Chloe isn’t David Blaine.

Come on Y&R! Accepting Adam’s (Justin Hartley) face change and increase in height back in 2014 was one thing, but asking viewers to believe that Chloe was alive and in that casket the whole time? That’s ridiculous. No, it’s just wrong.

Sure, Chloe could have faked her death. Dr. Harris (Ron Melendez) could have easily assisted her to do so at his house in Louisiana, with Victor’s (Eric Braeden) help, or not. Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) weren’t with the body when it was moved into a back room, didn’t check under the cover when she was carried out on a stretcher and left the state will the supposed corpse was apparently reviewed by the coroner.
But how could Chloe have survived for such a long period of time, or have somehow gotten herself into the casket? And where would a casket with some type of air hole have been found in Genoa City?
Entertainment fans know that real life magician, illusionist and endurance artist David Blaine has put himself into a state of suspended animation on multiple occasions, imitating his hero and all-time magic icon Harry Houdini. But Chloe isn’t Blaine. No, that’s just too much to take.
All is not lost at this point, as everything in soap can be written in certain future directions that offer explanations of seemingly unbelievable images. For example, Kevin was totally alone when the image of Chloe’s hand pushed the casket open. So possibly that didn’t happen?
Co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman and her team have been doing a good job in creating compelling daytime drama since December 2016. However, this contingent will need to offer a plausible explanation in the near future, or by the time Rikaart’s last scenes are scheduled to be shown in August. He and Hendrickson deserve equally solid sendoffs. Of course that assumes that Hendrickson has actually left, or that Chloe is dead.
When a longtime observer, who also gives Y&R benefit of the doubt on a regular basis is calling for order, along with all others who are doing the same, then something’s got to give. Right?
