The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Cane Must Change Course – Pattern of Bad Behavior Continues

Cane (Daniel Goddard) seems to have learned nothing on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Acting out of fear, he’s now paired himself with Benjamin Hochman (Ben Hermes). What possible good can come from Cane’s attempt to sabotage Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) company at this point?

Of course Cane’s actions are seen in the context of his current life limits. He’s experiencing professional road blocks in his attempt to seek gainful employment. Combined with his disrupted family, it’s no wonder he’s reeling.

As viewers recall, Vickie played the Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) card with Jack (Peter Bergman). That’s why the Jabot CEO didn’t follow through with an expected job offer. Then, after meeting with a head hunter, Cane learned that his departure from Brash and Sassy would likely mean that he could only obtain an entry level job at any Genoa City company.

Ben happened by the bar at the GC Athletic Club where Cane had started drinking. Apparently the sake bomb incident didn’t sink in either. So both suits exchanged pleasantries and eventually worked their way to a mutual understanding. Cane will feed inside information to Ben, who is attempting to grab Brash and Sassy from Vickie. Ben’s seeming romantic interest in her isn’t an act, but also doesn’t supersede his love of money.

The full use of Hermes’ character’s name was cited because Sean Carrigan’s character’s name is also Ben. That actor went to recurring status months ago and hasn’t been seen on screen in awhile. Though it is rather odd for Y&R, or for any soap to sport two characters with the same name within the same general time span. Yes, the minutia has been deeply dug, so let’s move on.

As longtime fans recall, Goddard’s character was written as a good guy after his shady arrival in this Wisconsin town was resolved. Even Cane’s faked death scenario can be put in the decent category, as his extreme actions were meant to protect those he loved in that instance.

While Lily (Christel Khalil) still loves him, it’s hard to imagine that ‘Lane’ will reunite anytime soon. Cane remains on a fully self-destructive course. Yes, Y&R has sharply curved this character’s trajectory.
