The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Cane Balancing Three Kids – Will Twins Forgive Him?

Neil (Kristoff St. John) offered seasoned advice to Cane (Daniel Goddard) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Regardless of what Mr. Ashby intends, the baby he’s having with Juliet (Laur Allen) will permanently impact his family.

Lily (Christel Khalil) obviously still loves Cane. She will surely always care about him as well. Whether they can repair ‘Lane’ is another issue. The couple stands at a crossroads, each looking at that space from a different direction.

The issue at this point isn’t whether Cane wants to heal with relationship with Mattie (Lexie Stevenson) and Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry). He does. But the twins are high schoolers, who haven’t had nearly enough time to process what’s happened to their dad. So they’re handling the shift in their lives as best as they can.

Cane’s series of foolish actions damaged the trust that existed between him and Lily. Ironically it was Cane who allowed ‘Lane’ to move forward in the recent past. The Joe (Scott Elrod) issue tagged Khalil’s character as the problem then.

Neil has worked through his own family issues in days gone by. So his experience and stance has value. He hasn’t rejected Cane out of hand. He’s offered his son-in-law strong words, but also a pathway to hope.

As Juliet’s due date moves closer the reality of Cane’s third child will create a different dynamic. No longer theoretical, a new baby will naturally cause Mr. Ashby to focus on that immediate priority. He obviously won’t shun his two other children, but won’t be able to devote as much time to them when his second son arrives.

Mattie and Charlie are becoming self sufficient. That factor, along with their mom’s presence may serve to somewhat normalize their dad’s absence from the house as time passes.

Solid soap pushes enduring characters out of ruts. Of course it was pleasant to see Cane and Lily revive after having been divorced years ago. This couple also worked through a serious cancer issue, Goddard’s alter ego feeling forced to fake his death to protect his family, the Joe issue and various other matters.

Y&R viewers are savvy. They’re open to seeing how ‘Lane’ handles the current drama. All fine actors involved will take the scripts that are provided and make the most of them, which is what the creation of engaging entertainment is about.
