Fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ know who Camryn Grimes once portrayed and who she’s embodying now. Mariah is Cassie’s twin, a point that wasn’t revealed until Grimes second go-round on this classic daytime steamer. A recent scene that showed Mariah bearing her soul to Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) further confirms that this second chance is a win-win.

While the above lead-in was offered to establish emotional perspective, reality is often balanced by looking at the now. That purposely provokes the two-part interrogative – Has Grimes been provided the type of scripts that allow her to have created a believable character and one that’s distinctly different than Mariah’s deceased twin? Yes and yes again.

Grimes ongoing occasional appearances as Cassie’s angel offered some solace to her fans in the years that followed the monumental hospital scene in Genoa City Memorial. But they weren’t enough until Victor’s (Eric Braeden) devious actions provided a gift.

Victor soapily spotted Mariah at Crimson Lights one day. He was naturally stunned by the young woman’s appearance and soon opted to use her face to gaslight Sharon (Sharon Case). That arc was brilliant, as it allowed tenured viewers to almost walk with Cassie again while also getting to know Mariah.

The eventual reveal allowed Sharon and Mariah to bond. Sharon’s maternal instincts enabled Grimes’ character to develop into a textured character all her own. To Grimes’ full credit, Mariah’s presence has always offered an entirely different person to GC and to its loyal observers.

Mariah’s recent heartfelt feeling-share with Tessa about Devon (Bryton James) was one of Grimes’ best moments, among various others during the past three years. She holds the title as Y&R’s greatest child actor and now also ranks with the best members of its adult cast.
