Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) turned 16 this week on ‘The Young and the Restless’. His mom was barely able to fit that event, or his same-day driver’s license test into her schedule. Fortunately for Vickie (Amelia Heinle), Billy (Jason Thompson) continues to cover for her. Yes, the effects of the modern thinking can be seen once again.

Some parents work because they have to. They make sacrifices and try to balance life as best as possible. Their efforts are noble and only slighted by the ill-informed.
But it must honestly be stated that there are also some parents who choose to work because they want to. These personalities seek to fulfill themselves indefinitely, along with seeking financial fuel that buys material possessions. Doing so counteracts the true and timeless purpose of parenthood. Leadership is the opposite of copying the crowd.
Vickie earned a $500 million settlement a number of years ago. She was awarded that staggering figure by participating in a lawsuit with her siblings. Together they sued their father for their share of the money pie. Though the merits of that case were legally accurate, the dysfunctional nature of the Newman family was once again shown to the court of public opinion. Victor’s (Eric Braeden) behavior served to distract Vickie once again this week.
Miss Newman doesn’t have to work. She chooses to do so. All haughty responses about her rights in this regard intend to miss the point. The child she chose to have with J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) should be one of her top three priorities, all of who have names.

Full credit goes to Vickie for having selflessly adopted Billy’s son Johnny (Holden and Ryan Hare). Yes, she has always demonstrated that she truly loves her two sons and Katie (Sienna Mercuri). But Billy’s help is allowing these three children to have a consistent parental presence right now. And Billy is merely Reed’s former stepdad. Though the stepdad title still exists in the minds of both men.
Vickie is hardly an ogre. She’s a good person who’s gotten off-track and allowed the modern call of career to distract her from family responsibility. The same is true for guys who do the same. But, in this instance, Billy isn’t the problem.
