Neither the Marx Brothers nor Queen was featured on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But Y&R’s ‘A Night at the Opera’ episode did allow Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Ravi (Abhi Sinha) to share some laughs and enjoy great music.

Of course viewers of a certain age, or of a solid cultural awareness know that Groucho, Chico and Harpo Marx’ 1935 comedic film and Queen’s 1975 rock album (which included the timeless ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’) are considered iconic pieces of art within their genres, just as Y&R stands among the greatest daytime dramas of all-time.

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) noticed that Ravi appeared to be Ashley’s date. Jack’s (Peter Bergman) inability to attend the high class Genoa City event coincided with snowstorm Stella. The largest weather event of the 2017 winter season was rolling through the United States approximately six weeks after this episode was recorded.
However, the suspension of disbelief that’s necessary to enjoy soap operas allowed this scribe to weave Stella into this Y&R plot point.
Ashley and Nikki have remained natural rivals since Victor opted to marry both women, at different times of course. The current Mrs. Newman, who’s unquestionably the love of Victor’s life, actually made meaningful points that then pushed Ashley to reconsider whether Ravi could be a romantic option.
Nikki’s observation matched a cogent point Ravi recently made as well. Both characters reminded Ashley that she’d often chosen the same male personality type, with unsuccessful long-term outcomes. So why not give this guy a chance? She’s single and so is he. Yes, they work together. But why not at least consider the chance for love?

Sinha’s addition to the cast is welcomed. He’s proved to be an engaging actor, whose humor helped to brighten the often gloomy halls at Jabot. This Clark Kent-ish guy sincerely likes Ashley and earnestly wants Ashley to give him a chance, as well as herself. It will be interesting to see where this pleasant storyline flows.
