Generally, ageism affects senior citizens and middle-aged individuals in the modern world and on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Open-mindedness is revealed as a front whenever that happens, as it often does. But the case of Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) is different, as a certain segment of the audience feels this character is too young. So, should she have been SORAS’d?
Of course savvy soap fans know that SORAS means Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome. It’s a creative writing technique that enables a character to advance many years past the actual age he, or she is believed to be. Most recently Mattie (now played by Lexie Stevenson) and Charlie (now played by Noah Alexander Gerry) experienced that transformation. The Ashby twins advanced by approximately 10 years.
Faith was in the same age range Mattie and Charlie before they were SORAS’d, but hasn’t been aged. That creates a logical disconnect for devoted viewers. However, it’s plausible to believe that the niche Lind has carved on Y&R and also within the industry, has allowed this actor to retain her role.

This scribe believes that Lind is the best child actor on Y&R since Camryn Grimes played Cassie. The subjectivity of this opinion could fill a future digital column. This scribe also believes that Lind’s increasing Hollywoodland options will allow SORAS supporters to see Faith change in the next few years.
SORAS detractors can be cited as being unaware of the suspension of disbelief scenario. Viewers of daytime drama and all fictional fare know that what they choose to consume isn’t real and therefore the conventions of reality don’t apply. However, critiques remain generally apt, as the critiquers often focus on the believability of a character’s age advancing.
Numerous Y&R characters, including Faith’s father, Nick, as played by Joshua Morrow since 1994, have been SORAS’d through the years. In that instance, Nicholas was said to have been off at boarding school in Europe. Upon Morrow’s addition to the cast, a fall wind was shown blowing leaves to the Newman doorstop at the original ranch house. The SORAS’d Nick entered the scene and Morrow has aged normally ever since.

Nick’s sister experienced a similar shift. Heather Tom became the older version of Victoria prior to Morrow’s debut. Amelia Heinle eventually assumed the Vickie role. Vickie’s son Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) was recently SORAS’d, though his rapid aging wasn’t as dramatic.
As far as Faith goes, in addition to retaining a terrific actor, the character’s continued 10-year-old status enables Nick and Victor (Eric Braeden) ongoing battle. That conflict is part of their main arc right now and seems likely to continue indefinitely. Faith, at this age, also is allowing Sharon and Nick to continue to co-parent proactively.
