The Young and the Restless POLL: New Personalities Take Over, Which Character Switches Are Working? VOTE!

Various characters on ‘The Young and the Restless’ have been written in different directions in recent months. So which changes are the most believable?

Vickie (Amelia Heinle) has changed from ‘Ice Princess’ to Billy-chaser (Jason Thompson) this year. Many viewers certainly must know couples who switch roles during courtship. Yes that’s the term this scribe wanted to use. Considering the on-again, off-again nature of this duo, is it plausible to believe that Vickie would have gained a refreshed interest in Billy because he turned his gaze toward Phyllis (Gina Tognoni).

Miss Summers is vastly different in her current incarnation. Tognoni has played into the direction Y&R’s past writing regime invented, and the current one has furthered. This Phyllis is vulnerable and funny. Might a notable segment of the audience also believe that she’s not only more likable, but also a better match for today’s Billy as well?

Pitting Vickie against Phyllis in a battle for Billy is something that would never have happened in the old days. Heinle was part of a cast that included Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller in years past. But this trio exists in different circumstances.

Billy is no longer a lout. Instead, he’s made a decision to move away from his first soul mate Victoria. Mr. Abbott isn’t a gambler, despite recent behind-the-scenes comments he made during a Brash and Sassy shoot. He’s also not a drinker, or a carouser.

Billy’ brother Jack (Peter Bergman) used to be fully committed to Phyllis. Today, he detests his younger sibling for busting ‘Phack’ apart and is using Gloria (Judith Chapman) for business and personal reasons.

Jack would have never considered Gloria as a confidant during the last decade. Being emotionally rudderless, he’s done just that. Does the audience think either character has made an acceptable choice in bonding with the other?

Cane (Daniel Goddard) is an insecure liar, a setup artist and a saboteur. Considering where the second-half of ‘Lane’ was just months ago, do fans think this devolution is right?

There are other personalities that could have been mentioned as well. But for now all savvy readers are only being asked to consider the changes noted and then offer their take.
