Not only has Eric starred in over 120 prime time televisions series and feature films, he is an accomplished athlete, a humanitarian and an intellectual.
When I received an early copy of Eric Braeden’s official memoir, “I’ll Be Damned,” I was blown away by his story and truly couldn’t put the book down. We all know him as “The Mustache,” Victor Newman, but there is SO much more to the talented actor.
Eric Braeden’s memoir begins with his early years and pays homage to his homeland Germany, where he was actually born Hans Gudegast. What makes Eric’s story so unique is that Hollywood was not even on his radar, unlike most iconic stars who are groomed at an early age to become a star, Eric made it to the big screen by mere coincidence, and the rest is history!
In “I’ll Be Damned,” Braeden touches on his Y&R character Victor Newman, and even divulges some juicy gossip on a particular feud with one of his co-stars. Plus he shares his side of the story regarding that epic face-off he had with Peter Bergman back in the 90’s. But, the truly interesting excerpts that reeled me in were about what Eric Braeden does when’s he’s not working on the soap set. Did you know that Eric has even received Germany’s Federal Medal of Honor, not once, but twice?
One thing Braeden does seem to have in common with his alter ego Victor Newman is their sense of family. And, upon reading his memoir it becomes abundantly clear that Eric’s wife Dale and their son Christian and grandchildren are very important to him.
Eric Braeden has always been a well-respected actor in the soap opera industry. But, after I learned about his early days and how he grew up in a poverty-stricken village in Germany during World War II, I began to look at “The Young and the Restless” star in an entirely new light. I was misty-eyed while I read “I’ll Be Damned” and Eric’s personal story about his childhood and losing his father at a young age.
If you are a fan of Eric Braeden, you absolutely have to pick up a copy of his memoir. And, if you aren’t a fan of his, I guarantee you that by the end of “I’ll Be Damned,” you will be.
“I’ll Be Damned” is officially available online and in bookstores on February 7 2017. If you haven’t had a chance to pick up your copy, then you are in luck, Soap Opera Spy will be giving away a copy of “I’ll Be Damned,” free of charge. Enter in to the contest below and you may be the lucky winner!
