The Soap Opera ratings for the week of August 21 through August 25, 2017, have been reported by Soap Opera Network. While NBC’s Days of Our Lives had a jump of 117,000 total viewers this week, it is the only daytime soap opera that gained viewers among women aged 18-49! CBS’ The Young and the Restless (Y&R) many have also made a massive gain in total viewership, CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) and ABC’s General Hospital (GH) both took a tumble!
DAYS OF OUR LIVES
NBC’s Days of Our Lives (DOOL) was filled with its ups and downs this week; and could it be the return of Hattie Adams (Deidre Hall), and Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans) be the reason viewers tuned in; or could it be the reconciliation of Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and the love of his life, Abigail Devereaux (Marci Miller) and marriage proposals between two beloved couples. DOOL has 2,131,000 total viewership and has increased 34,000 women viewers between the ages of 18 and 49. Will the impending return of fan favorites like Lisa Rinna and Alison Sweeney make the ratings soar?
GENERAL HOSPITAL
ABC’s General Hospital (GH) stands with 2,301,000 total viewers but lost -68,000 this past week; some of this may have been due to the Great American Eclipse that took place on Monday, August, 21, 2017 interrupting most networks and their regular scheduled programming. One has to wonder if it was the let down from Julian Jerome’s (William deVry) prison sentence, sending some of Julian and Alexis Davis’ (Nancy Lee Grahn) fans into a tizzy, or if it had to do with the aftermath of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) being shot and left for dead by one of his dearest friends.
THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) lost 55,000 total viewership this week, leaving them with 3,414,000 viewers but they hit a new low when they 56,000 of those were women between 18 and 49. This week seemed to be filled with blackmail and vendettas. Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) takes a stand against Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) and questions Dr. James Warwick (Ian Buchanan) on his diagnosis. Bill Spencer’s (Don Diamont) obsession with the Spectra Fashions location seems to be wearing on fans; while maybe some don’t really like the new kind of relationship forming between Katie Logan (Heather Tom) and her former stepson, Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks).
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
CBS’ The Young and the Restless (Y&R) is still reigning with 4,363,000 in total viewers but it lost a lot of women viewers aged 18-49, by dropping more than 38,000 from the previous week. Victor (Eric Braden) and Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) turmoil may be pushing fans away as this seems to be the pattern between father and both his sons! Some fans are not thrilled with the break up of supercouple, Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Lily Ashby (Christel Khalil).
How do you feel about all the storylines that happened this week and how would you rate each daytime soap opera?
