Hollyoaks fans are getting some extra Christmas presents this year, not under the tree, but on the TV!
According to showrunner Bryan Kirkwood, the hit sudser has lined up not one but two hour length holiday specials, to air at Christmas and New Year.
For several years now the Channel 4 soap opera has been gifted with the hour long specials, which are a boon to both fans and the show staff.
Not only are the much-anticipated specials a cheery bonus for viewers, but the longer length allows writers to dig deeper into storylines for maximum impact.
In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Kirkwood dished some of the amazing plot points that await loyal fans.
First off, Christmas kicks off with a bang with a raucous party held at The Dog. Look for Milo Entwistle (Nathan Morris) and the Cunninghams to figure prominently in the hour long episode.

In keeping with the reason for the season, there will be a birth on the show! “Courtney (Amy Conachan) gives birth to her much-longed-for daughter,” says Kirkwood. “It’s a real punch-the-air moment to see that brilliant battler get what she’s always wanted.”
Of course there’s always one bad egg to dampen the festivities, and this year it’s DS Armstrong (Andrew Hayden-Smith).
Although the shady detective left town after being blackmailed by Milo over his dark activities, he’s baaack! Will the bad guy return to his evil, stalking ways?
Not everyone enjoyed the villain and his antics the first time around, but Kirkwood has an opinion on that: “It’s always a treat when you didn’t plan on a character being an integral part of the show, only to have them suddenly catch the audience’s imagination.”
So, whether you love him or hate him, expect Armstrong to be a prominent part of the holiday storytelling.
“He features rather heavily in our Christmas episode,” promises Kirkwood, “which is a big, colourful camp treat.”
