General Hospital Steve Burton Returns HOME to GH – Emotional Reunions and Added Pressure

General Hospital (GH) spoilers confirm what everyone knows, Steve Burton will officially be back on the ABC soap opera on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 and no one is more excited than his die hard fans. There is no doubt his return is epic and will cause heartache and confusion among all the people who love Jason Morgan in Port Charles; but leaving and returning to the role wasn’t as dramatic as fan thought or felt it could have been.

GH spoilers reveal that Burton recently told Soap Opera Digest that when he vacated the role, he originated in 2012; he honestly didn’t think the door would be open to a return but he acknowledges that there was no drama between him and Billy Miller, who currently plays the character of Jason Morgan. He admits that when he had thought about someone taking over the role, Miller did come to mind and he was “cool” with it and encouraged him to “go do it!”

Jason has always been a prominent figure in Port Charles with ties to pretty much everyone there, especially since he is a member of the core family – The Quartermaines and an honorary member of the Corinthos’ clan; it was only a matter of time before the powers that be would have needed to replace Burton when he left the role and eventually joined the CBS daytime drama The Young and the Restless (Y&R).

General Hospital spoilers explain that after Burton left Y&R, he really had no plans to return to acting as he had just launched his nutrition company but everything drastically changed when he ran into talent agent, Bobby Moses at the Daytime Emmy Award show. He introduced himself as Maurice Benard’s (Sonny Corinthos, GH) agent and after mulling over the idea for a while, Burton called while on a tour date with the band Port Chuck; the rest seems to be history as General Hospital was mentioned and Burton was thrust back into the place he called home for over 20 years.

Steve Burton quickly admits it was an easy decision for various reasons; he is emotionally attached to many of the key players on the show; they have blocks of time to be off, which helps with his other ventures and plenty of time to be with his family. He has had a lot of personal growth while he was away from GH, giving him a new view on life.

GH sources reveal that his first day back was an emotional one, no work was accomplished as it was all about reconnecting with the ones he left 5 years earlier, even joking that when he ran into Billy Miller, there were no fists flying; he insists they have a good friendship and a lot in common.
