Have “General Hospital” fans seen the last of evil-doing chameleon Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart)? Yes, for now. But who knows what the future holds?

Valentin has had a busy year wreaking havoc in the lives of several Port Charles residents. First he killed his cousin on the family island, then he caught a boat to town and set about causing consternation wherever he went. I
t was supposed to be a short term role, but Stuart soon found himself in the middle of several sizzling storylines. Now, just as suddenly as he arrived, Valentin has disappeared.
In a recent interview with Soaps in Depth Stuart reflected on his wildly busy GH tenure and flash departure.
According to the talented actor, he was on recurring status but is now taking a “break.” He sees his exit as an opportunity for some of GH’s other actors to have some air time. In particular, Stuart referred to “contract players who need to work their minimums.”
“It doesn’t mean Frank (Valentini), the ladies (co-headwriters Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante) and I don’t love each other, because we do,” he explains. He goes on to say that showrunners have asked him to “come back soon,” and that he doesn’t see “myself sitting on the bench forever.”
All of this should sound promising for fans of Valentin’s talented portrayer! In the meantime Stuart won’t be cooling his jets any time soon. Stuart is married (sorry ladies!) and the father of two children, Graham, 15 and Collin 11.
Stuart says he’s looking forward to some time away from the demands of daytime television, which was a big change from the work he was doing in primetime. To this end he anticipates going on new adventures and spending quality time with his beautiful family.

“I have a very rich life,” he says. “All you have to do is check Twitter to see that I’m going to … New Zealand … or off on one of my adventures.” We wish James the best of luck on his future endeavors!
