Emmerdale Spoilers: Soap Planning Shock Acid Attack Story?

Groundbreaking soap Emmerdale could be planning to do yet another socially relevant and emotionally charged storyline in the near future. Showrunners have been speaking to acid attack victims, and speculation is high that such a storyline is in the works.
According to Digital Spy, representatives from the ITV show have spoken with victims of acid attacks, which involve a person being doused with a corrosive, disfiguring substance, possibly with the aim of writing a topical and sensitive plot going forward.

In recent years there has been a troubling increase in this type of attack, but the show’s reported actions do not guarantee that such a narrative will be aired, merely that it is may be under consideration.
The award winning show has tackled several controversial issues in the past year, and perhaps their bold storytelling is behind the show’s besting of stalwarts EastEnders and Coronation Street at recent award shows, as well as Emmerdale frequently beating EastEnders in the ratings.
Viewers have witnessed fan fave Holly Barton die after a heroin overdose, Ashley Thomas’ long-running dementia storyline (which recently received several top television awards) including the sudser’s innovative episode that revealed life through the eyes of Ashley, and Aaron’s traumatic prison bullying tale.
Is the show set to air yet another gut wrenching and thought provoking saga? That remains to be seen. When asked for comment, Emmerdale reps declined to comment on the current storyline speculation.
London has experienced a dramatic rise in acid attacks. Cases have more than doubled since 2014 when 200 incidents were reported. In 2016, 431 acid attacks were reported, with Essex and the West Midlands also seeing a sharp increase in such crimes.
