Emmerdale exec Iain MacLeod laid the groundwork for the summer storyline fun when he teased that fans would have two lustful affairs to root for this summer. Adding fuel to the fire, he dished that the hookups would come as a complete and utter shock!

Well, he sure was right: fans were astonished to see the first coupling unfold! Who could have predicted that Cain Dingle and Harriet Finch would become an item?

Fans should now get ready for the other licentious shoe to drop! We can now reveal that at the center of the second relationship is none other than hunky Pete Barton. Oh, la, la!

In an interview with SoapSquawk, MacLeod has disclosed some rather exciting deets about Pete’s upcoming love predicament. After all, what will happen to his current girl Leyla?

The unlucky-in-love Pete hasn’t had much to smile about lately, but all that is about to change when a certain lady catches his lovely, deep-blue eyes.

“There’s a big story coming up for Pete which will be sexy and fun,” says MacLeod. “It plays to Anthony Quinlan’s strengths which is … leading man but he can also do comedy. Pete’s got a hapless quality to him which I think is brilliant.”

So, not only will viewers get to see Pete in love, they might enjoy a humorous chuckle or two as well. The only question remaining is just who does Pete dally with? She must be someone special to take his gaze away from Leyla!
