Did you see the Branning sisters fight during the EastEnders Halloween episode? Abi finally told Lauren Branning (Jaqueline Jossa) about her romance with Steven. Abi has been grieving for her lost lover since his death in the fire, but she kept his dirty secrets, until she finally snapped at her sister.

We saw Abi in Lauren’s wedding dress, clutching one of Steven’s coats. The young girl is clearly having a hard time over his death. But shockingly we found out that she has been keeping Steven’s remains to herself. Lauren still does not know about Abi’s pregnancy though, that she has kept to herself. But don’t fear that story line will be uncovered in the upcoming week.
The fight resulted in Abi taking Steven’s ashes and attempting to flush them down the toilet. But this back fired, and the dead man’s ashes were spurted all over the sisters.

Question is, was this okay for the show to do? Even though EastEnders is obviously fictional, the handling of the remains has rattled some fans as it can be seen as disrespectful. Steven was not exactly a great person during his time alive, he lied about having a brain tumour and spied on his girlfriend out of jealously. But does that mean that it’s okay for his remains to be treated so carelessly?
Was the action really offensive? After all Steven isn’t real and neither was the prop used in the scene. The stunt added entertainment value to the episode and uncovered Abi’s secrets. What do you think of the ashes? Do you think it was handled correctly?
