When Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) latest stomach-churning stunt is revealed on EastEnders even Beelzebub won’t forgive him. Heck, what he’s done is so dirty even Mad Max turns against himself—now that’s a contortion you don’t see every day!
Max’s treachery knows no limit, but rending apart his own family is low even for him. It was heartbreaking to see Max’s brother Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) have to give up baby Matthew. Who will forget the sad, sad scene as teary Jack surrendered the sweet blond boy to Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett) out on the pavement for what seemed like the whole town to witness?

Well, guess who secretly orchestrated the whole sordid affair? Yep, Max thought it was a fitting payback for having been wrongly accused of murder oh so long ago. C’mon Max, give it up and let bygones be bygones!
Max’s vendetta against those who saw him falsely imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit has consumed him since his return to Walford, but now he’s going down in a spectacularly soapy manner.
His exposed plot to take over Albert Square has made him an open-air pariah. But the worst is yet to come as his only remaining ally, Jack, will finally learn the truth about his kin.
In the coming days Charlie Cotton returns to town and spills the beans on his complicit deal with Max. Max first gave Charlie money to return to Matthew, but then blackmailed the man into taking the boy away from Jack. How does it feel to be a baby snatcher, Max?
