Accomplishing 90 years of life is a magnificent milestone, and the celebration of such a life should be equally grand. And so it will be for EastEnders’ award winning grande dame June Brown (Dot Cotton).
The BBC One soap is pulling out all the stops to recognize and celebrate Brown’s 90th birthday next month, as befits her regal status as a MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).

In a rare move, the show will devote an entire spin-off episode to honor Brown’s accomplishments both on the show and in her illustrious life. Brown has played chain smoker Dot Cotton since 1985, one of the longest running characters on the wildly popular British show.
Viewers of the special tribute episode will get an insider’s look at Brown’s career including how she won her first part, and her relationships with fellow EastEnders actors.
The Suffolk-born star will also reveal the role that a lucky horoscope played in the success of her EastEnders run.
Many of Brown’s current and former colleagues have filmed special heartfelt tributes for her, including Rudolph Walker, Danny Dyer, Gillian Taylforth, Adam Woodyatt, Lacey Turner and Natalie Cassidy.
Brown’s eminent career has been distinguished by several prestigious awards and recognitions. In 2005 she was doubly privileged at the British Soap Awards when she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award, and won the award for Best Actress.

Brown is one of just two performers to receive a BAFTA nomination for work on a soap opera. She was made a MBE in the 2008 Queens Birthday Honors.
Given all of her accomplishments, is Brown considering retirement any time soon? She’s not saying, but it has been reported that the actress is to be paid £300,000 to remain on the soap for another year.
Given her status as a fan favorite, TPTB would be wise to keep Brown on EastEnders as long as is humanly possible!
