EastEnders Spoilers: Bert Atkinson Involved In Phil’s Bizarre Twisted Tale

EastEnders’ uber mysterious Phil and Jay Storyline isn’t so much of a whodunit as a why-did-he-do-it?  Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) are tangled up in one of the soap’s most baffling plots in recent years, and this week another crazy twist left viewers scratching their heads.

What does it mean that Jay’s grandfather Bert Atkinson (Dave Hill) appears to be in cahoots with Phil? The enigmatic riddle that Phil is currently spinning seemingly makes no sense. I know, that never happens on soaps, right?

First Phil stunned Jay by telling him that the man he believed to be his father, Jase Dyer, really wasn’t his dad. Then Phil shocked the poor guy even further by informing him that he himself actually killed his real dad! Phil explained to a shell-shocked Jay that his dad died in 1994, a victim of the car lot fire that Phil set.

Viewers’ minds were left reeling by the outlandish tale, and subsequent events didn’t clarify the perplexing story one bit. We later witnessed Phil as he told an unseen person on the other end of the phone line that he successfully lied to Jay. No clue was or has been given as to why he did this horrific thing to Jay, and now the plot thickens with Bert’s involvement!

The elderly gentleman popped up to confirm Phil’s tale, and try to soothe his troubled mind. Bert went on to reassure his grandson that everyone involved was simply trying to do right by him.

Surely there’s more to this devastating story, as Phil Mitchell watched on as the exchange took place between Jay and Bert. But to what end?

Now it appears that Bert is complicit in the lies, and everything he said to Jay was fraudulent as well! Bert’s appearance has us wondering just who else is involved in this unexpected mystery, and why the “truth” is being dredged up now. We want to know what your theories are!
