Coronation Street Spoilers: Simon Delaney Joins Corrie Cast As Mysterious New Character

“Coronation Street” spoilers tease that fans are in for a treat as the soap has just signed a high profile actor to its cast. Simon Delaney of “Mrs. Brown Boys,” will join the ITV sudser in a role shrouded in secrecy. No details have been forthcoming from studio execs other than to say that Delaney will be playing an Irishman.

The veteran actor known for his role as Tom Crewes in “Mrs. Brown’s Boys,” has an extensive and illustrious resume. His credits include, ‘The Good Wife,” “Trollied,” and “The Fall.”

Delaney has already begun filming on the cobbles, and will appear in the popular soap next month. It’s unclear how many episodes we can expect to see him in, or who exactly he will portray.

What is clear is that the comedian is already having fun with his starring role! In a recent tweet he teased fans about his upcoming gig, without exactly coming out and confirming the news. “Yes indeed, the rumours are true, I am heading to Manchester. This Thursday. For the United match. #amongstotherthings.”

Corrie is filmed in Manchester, and his followers were quick to congratulate him on his news. “Add a bit a class to Weatherfield,” read one tweet, and another fan responded, “Delighted for you! What a gig!!”

Might the newbie be playing a cop in one of Corrie’s standout storylines? Front and center has been Bethany Platt’s grooming plotline. Could Delaney be an officer called in to investigate Nathan’s illicit sex ring? We already know that at least crooked cop is involved in the ring, maybe Delaney will come in to clean up the police department?

The whodunit surrounding Ken Barlow is also on the front burner. Tracey has confessed to pushing the elderly man (her father!) down a flight of stairs, but there are plenty of outstanding suspects. Does anyone really believe that Tracey tried to kill her own dad? Delaney could be the one to crack the case and finally bring justice to Weatherfield!
