“Coronation Street,” is riding a wave of success that includes top-notch ratings and critical acclaim and to accommodate its growth curve, the show has expanded its physical boundaries with an innovative, cutting-edge set for the actors to work in.
The expansion comes as the popular ITV soap now films six episodes a week. In March the show’s set plans were announced along with details about the new facades.
Coronation Street Spoilers And News
Added to the current set will be a fresh collection of new houses, stores, a school, and a police station. It’s anticipated that the newly minted set will open up a novel realm of storytelling possibilities, including new families and new dramatic plotlines.
Last week viewers got their first look at the much-anticipated makeover when Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) was seen sitting on a curb underneath a bridge from the new set. Eagle-eyed viewers would have noticed the old set in the background, which included the kebab shop and a hair salon.
The angle used was a novel one, and for the first time cars were filmed going under the bridge as they passed by a forlorn Bethany. Prior to this a fake backdrop was used in bridge scenes. According to sources, the rest of the brand-new set will debut shortly.
Blueprints submitted for approval earlier this year showed that the set will feature stores on Kitchener Street. Tile Street has been referred to frequently on the super sudser although never shown on air; it’s anticipated that Tile Street will now be a featured part of the new set.

A separate plan submitted for approval revealed several buildings with fire escapes, most likely to be family dwellings. According to a show source, fans can expect new families with new dramas and travails to take up residence in the new homes.
Corrie debuted in 1960 and has filmed at three locations since that time. Currently the long-running show is filmed at MediaCity UK in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.
