Coronation Street Spoilers: Liz Dawn Health Scare – Beloved Corrie Star Undergoing Major Heart Surgery

Fans of “Coronation Street,” star Liz Dawn will want to keep the esteemed veteran in their thoughts as the brave actress prepares for a medical procedure next week. Dawn has been very open about her medical condition, and her loyal fans have supported her every step of the way.

In the coming days 77-year old Dawn will undergo a major operation to assist with a heart condition, which together with an incurable lung disease, has slowed the vibrant actress down, but definitely not stopped her.

The portrayer of Corrie’s Vera Duckworth debuted on the cobbles in 1974. When Vera married Jack the two became a veritable institution, and fans of the ITV sudser tuned in every week to see the lovable couple play out their lives together.

Vera was a straightforward Rovers Return pub landlady, and sad sack Jack loved his pigeons and his wife over all else.

Dawn departed the cobbles in 2008, but made an appearance in 2010. The poignant scene involved Vera’s ghost coming to Jack when, as he sat in his chair, he passed away. The onscreen couple were best friends off-screen as well.

Unfortunately Dawn’s health issues prevented her from attending her nephew’s recent wedding in the Alpine town of Bassano del Grappa.

Talking with the Sunday Mail, Dawn revealed, “Naturally I am very disappointed not to be there with them. They make such a lovely couple, it’s every ­grandmother’s dream and Bassano is such a lovely setting. But I was there with them in spirit and we will throw a big party for them when they return from their honeymoon.”

Dawn has been quite candid about her health problems, revealing that her lifelong smoking habit, which began at age 14, is behind her present day troubles. According to Dawn, she was smoking 24 cigarettes a day up to the time of her diagnosis.
