Coronation Street Spoilers: Corrie Boss Kate Oates Reveals Huge Storyline

Coronation Street fans can look forward to a blockbuster period of storytelling in the New Year. According to showrunner Kate Oates, 2018 will usher in some of the most stunning and creative plots to ever air on the hit ITV sudser.

It’s hard to imagine how things can go from great to better with this award-winning soap, but that’s exactly what Oates is promising.

It’s been a year since the producer has taken the Corrie reins and in that time viewers have witnessed jaw-dropping storytelling that’s not without a grain of controversy.

Most notably Oates has overseen the Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) sex trafficking story. The plot had viewers riveted as teen Bethany was seen coming under the influence of a manipulative and evil ringleader who duped the girl into becoming a part of his illicit operation.

It’s fair to say that Corrie viewers were initiated into a realm of storytelling that reached new heights of topical reality and drama. How does one top that?

According to the Metro, Oates will continue to push the envelope in 2018, with a sensational storyline that gives even her the jitters!

“There are still stories I’m passionate about telling,” she explained. “We’re doing one next year that scares me a bit but if it’s taken in the way we intend, it could do a lot of good.”

The cutting-edge exec went on to say that she feels Corrie is a great outlet for helping people, “by reaching out and promoting discussion – everything’s better if we chat about it.” She mentioned the miscarriage and sex trafficking plots as talking-point stories that she was particularly proud of.

Although the audience was at times horrified by the events that unfolded in the Bethany Platt storyline, the plot has been praised for the awareness it raised.

Oates acknowledged that the story caused some worries before it aired, but was grateful that her bosses eventually decided to air the groundbreaking plot. We can’t wait to see what fantastic storytelling she’s set to spin next!
