Coronation Street Spoiler: Love Is In The Air For Daniel and Cindy – Will It Derail His Phelan Investigation?

Romance is abound on Coronation Street. It’s like an episode of The Bachelor, but without the whole “most dramatic rose ceremony in history” bit. Daniel Osbourne and his sleuthing ways might just be involved in a little love affair with Cindy, his editor. Cindy becomes enthralled by the geeky-yet-hot Daniel when his investigative nose turns up some pretty startling revelations about the villainous Pat Phelan and the Calcutta Street scam.

According to Metro UK, “Using his journalistic nose, he finds out more and more intricate details of what Phelan is hiding and conversations with Anna Windass and Todd Grimshaw lead him to investigate a nursing home. Daniel later feeds back his findings to Cindy and she sees him in a whole new light. Before long, there is a spark between them and she flirts with him – but where will it lead?”

Where it will lead is indeed the question. A romance between Daniel and Cindy could spell trouble for Daniel’s professional instincts. If it’s all about finding Phelan and bringing him to some sort of mob justice, then a romance wouldn’t be the first place I’d look. In fact, Daniel’s future relations with Cindy could turn into a strange coupling. Soapies tend to stick the hot ones with the other hot ones. It’s just a fact of life. Daniel isn’t the most attractive guy on Coronation Street, which is detrimental to his future with Cindy. An office romance could go a long way in creating a whole new narrative arc. But will it happen? I highly doubt it. Yes, there’ll be some flirtation along the way and Daniel will become all embroiled in Cindy’s professional claws, but I highly doubt we’d see the romance of the century play out on Coronation Street.

Would it be a fun narrative arc? Yes, it would. I’m always rooting for the underdog, so rock on, Daniel. You get yourself some of Cindy and vice versa. We need an unorthodox romantic couple to remind us that indeed, there is someone out there for all of us. I’m all for it, but will the writers agree? I guess only time – as with all soapies – will tell. The writers might decide to kill off Daniel because, you know, romance. Just take a gander at The Walking Dead (which is in no way affiliated with Coronation Street) to know that romance doesn’t always lead to happiness. Sometimes there’s a zombie around the corner waiting to bite your head off.
