Coronation Street News: Claire King Opens Up About Health Issues

Before Claire King (Erica Holroyd) exits, “Coronation Street,” the star has a few things to get off her mind. In a recent interview, the candid actress set the record straight on a number of controversial topics. The gifted actress joined Coronation Street three years ago in the role of flirty, middle-aged Erica Holroyd; in May she announced her upcoming departure.

Talking to The Sunday Mirror, 54-year old King discussed her health in a no-holds-barred manner. She has gone on record before about her rheumatoid arthritis, but this time around her comments may surprise you.

Because of her age and medical condition, the blonde star worries about what the future may hold. “I can understand why people choose assisted dying,” she said, “and it’s getting to the point where I would consider it myself.”

However, it sounds as if the forthright star has no intention of taking matters into her hands anytime soon, noting that if and when that time came, “Most of my family will be gone. It’s not a selfish thing. It’s a decision at a certain age, when you’re becoming a burden to others.”

King doesn’t have children, but she and her brother Piers take care of her disabled parents, John and Angela, both 77. Her father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis before the age of 30, and her mother has experienced rheumatoid arthritis, along with severe back problems, that began during King’s childhood.

Ever since her exit announcement, “Coronation Street,” fans began speculating that she’s set to join competing soap “Emmerdale.” Is the honest and straightforward actress ready to jump ship? Prior to her turn on the cobbles, King starred as popular Kim Tate on, “Emmerdale.”

There’s no doubt that soap fans would love to see the multi-talented actress return to the competing sudser. But before that can happen, fans have been promised an upcoming plotline full of exciting drama, worthy of the veteran actress’s immense talent!
