Coronation Street Chaos – Filming Halted Following Emergency Evacuation

Real life chaos and drama descended upon the set of Coronation Street Friday July 21 when the cast and crew were evacuated with no warning nor reason. Just after lunchtime the cast were displaced from the show’s Manchester studios and relocated to the parking lot, with no immediate explanation given.

It wasn’t until everyone was out of the studios that a reason for the mass exodus was released: a smoke alarm had gone off.

Speaking to the MailOnline, an anonymous source revealed that, “This was simply a fire alarm we all went into the car park and returned to the offices a few minutes later.”

Everyone was no doubt relieved that the legendary and expensive sets, props, and clothing were spared any damage. With the Rovers Return in new hands these days, and many other storylines heating up, it would have been a disaster to halt filming for any reason.

The chaos could have been much more widespread had the false alarm not been triggered around 1:30 PM, when many of the ITV show’s cast and crew were away for lunch. All in all the production schedule was not affected and there were no reports of damage or injuries.

Corrie has been filmed at Media City in Manchester since 2013. This is the fifth Coronation Street set to be used and is located near the BBC headquarters.

The legendary soap has the distinction of being Britain’s longest-running sudser, having debuted in 1960. Along the way the showrunners have introduced many groundbreaking storylines, including the current sex trafficking plot involving Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon).

The story of an impressionable teen falling prey to a con running an illicit sex ring has both outraged and captivated the soap’s huge and vocal audience.
