Controversial Coronation Street Star Chris Fountain Starring In ITV New Drama

Coronation Street fans are surprised to see that controversial actor Chris Fountain has found a new job on television. Reports indicate that the actor, who played Tommy Duckworth from 2011 to 2013, will be back on the small screen in a new drama called Girlfriends.

Chris was fired from Coronation Street back in 2013 after it was revealed that he filmed a series of clips as a masked rapper. Many YouTube clips showed the actor rapping about sexual violence in the guise of his alter-ego The Phantom. The clips, which are no longer available to view on YouTube, featured Fountain wearing a Halloween mask, miming stabbing motions and claiming he was “bored with fame.”

After he was fired, Chris said that he was mortified to have brought so much embarrassment to his Coronation Street colleagues and employers.

His new show, Girlfriends, stars Miranda Richardson and Zoe Wanamaker. The drama revolves around three women and their friendship “as they struggle with the responsibilities and inevitable changes that come with being a modern woman of a certain age.”

The 29-year-old shared a new photo on his Instagram account this week and captioned it with, “Today marks a very special day for me. After being off the screen for a long, long time, I now have the opportunity to be back doing one of the things I love and I’m incredibly grateful. Today is my first day filming ITV’s new drama, ‘Girlfriends’ by Kay Mellor. Time to get back in the saddle, as they say!”
