‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Reed’s Return is Welcomed – Vickie’s Mothering Duties Expand

Savvy viewers know that Tristan Lake Leabu debuts as Reed this week on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He’s Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) son through J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill). Max Page portrayed Reed from 2009-2016, though the character only appeared sporadically in recent years.

The switch from Page to Lebeau advances the age of this young man, which is a common and often debated technique used within the genre. Of course Victoria transformed from a little girl to a teenager when Heather Tom was cast in the role in 1991. Tom has since gone on to star on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ as Katie.

Vickie won’t count 2016 as her best year. She took a relationship detour by crushing hard for Travis (Michael Roark). Whether that character didn’t evolve as expected, or was purposefully plotted for a short-term stint hasn’t been confirmed. With whatever the back office decision, Roark exited the cast this fall.

The apparent anti-Billy (Jason Thompson) quickly devolved into Billy 2, as Travis was revealed as a cheater and truth concealer. That writing choice seemed forced and unnecessary. It also positioned Vickie in limbo territory with no man in her life and no apparent prospects of one on the horizon.

Many who push a career path as the ideal of strength and independence are often camouflaging their own cynicism. Don’t buy the self-centered soul poison those misandrists have been peddling for ages Vickie. There is a good guy out there for you.

So Reed’s arrival comes at an interesting time for one of the three executives who head Brash and Sassy. Vickie’s son’s unexpected arrival in Wisconsin obviously could be leading to an eventual reunion with J.T., but it’s too soon to harden an opinion about that speculative point.

It would be intriguing for Victoria to have an option other than Billy-boy. As for J.T., he was always a solid character, possesses plenty of backstory and would surely help to establish a long arc if Luckinbill returns full-time.

Of course, Luckinbill is Heinle’s real life husband who she has two children with. He hasn’t been seen on Y&R since 2010, when his character was said to have moved away with his wife Mackenzie (Clementine Ford). ‘Mac’ is Katherine’s (Jeanne Cooper) granddaughter. Yes, Genoa City is quite the small world.
