Jack (Peter Bergman) is wiser than Travis (Michael Roark) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That fact was reinforced this week when Victor’s (Eric Braeden) corporate pawn was played by the King of Jabot. And, further evidence was offered to fans that the growing Abbott-Newman war will remain delicious.
So many rounds have been fought between Y&R’s two main characters. Executive producer Mal Young, head writer Sally Sussman and story consultant Kay Alden are likely to open new fronts as Jack and Victor battle to damage each other’s companies and personal lives. Chalk rounds one and two up to Jack.
Surely, Jack knows that Victor could be laying on the ropes. But, the ‘Dark Knight’ could also be feeding John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) first-born son false information through a mole. Making Jack feel like he’s winning, when he’s merely being setup to play the fool, again.
Travis is suspicious himself. Has he secretly been working with Jack all along? But, that suspicion was likely debunked shortly after Mr. Crawford donned a trench coat and hustled to Chancellor Park. Picking a sealed envelope out of a public trash receptacle, that Jack purposely dropped in, was momentarily haughty. However, Bergman peaked into the shot behind Roark’s character who was leafing through a small ream of clear white copy paper. Gotcha!
Meanwhile on the main floor of the Genoa City Athletic Club: Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) set her leather briefcase down, took a drink and waited for ‘Deep Throat’ to arrive. The Watergate-like figure entered, asked ‘Red’ if the seat aside of her was taken, set his own attache down, picked up an identical one filled with money and departed. Mission accomplished? Not quite, as Abby (Melissa Ordway) observed from her hidden perspective across the room.
Abby’s mother-in-law, Maureen (Meredith Baxter), hasn’t been seen since 2014. Possibly, she’s discretely returned to town and is also working for Jack, or Victor? Probably not. But, Baxter did appear in the 1976 film ‘All the President’s Men’. That Y&R link to a famous flick ends this feature, while also providing a search-worthy reference to everyone living through modern times that feel like fiction.
