Ian Ward (Ray Wise) is one of the greatest scoundrels who has ever appeared on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Initially, he appears to be charming. But, as his latest hostages, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) know, he’s also crazy. Add a gun shot wound to the mix and viewers know that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will find a way to block Ian’s escape path.
Ian targeted Nikki long before Victor arrived in Genoa City. Ages ago a long-haired Paul (Doug Davidson) played hero to YR’s enduring damsel in distress. Now, circa 2016, Paul heads the police force that’s once again searching for the former leader of ‘The Path’. Security protocol within GC’s thin blue line are sure to be reviewed as a result.
Head writer Chuck Pratt, Jr. rewrote the script after being given ‘The Young and the Restless’ reigns a few years ago. He shifted a leaning arc toward what had once been the main point, Victor standing at center stage. Some storylines had become a bit unusual as the great man aged. But, in this instance, ‘The Mustache’ was shot by the man who recently conspired with his own son Adam (Justin Hartley) to bring down Newman Enterprises, while simultaneously abducting the love of his life. That type of daytime drama plays in any era.
Savvy fans know that Wise is a recurring character. So, his time on camera is therefore projected through short, brilliant bursts. That’s why it was so fitting that Ian shoved Nikki through the Abbot cabin doors and subsequently found another woman he claims to adore, Phyllis, unexpectedly waiting.
The combined firepower of these two divas and the unstoppable force that is the great Victor Newman is sure to overcome Ian’s mind games and lethal pistol. The cad who initially introduced himself to Jack’s (Peter Bergman) wife as Fred the fisherman, won’t be calling the shots for long. Instead, he’s temporarily been allowed to live in the real world. Soon enough Victor will save the day, somehow, because that’s the story devoted fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ always expect to be told.
