‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Victor’s Mysterious Link to Natalie – Why Did Newman Bring Back Kevin’s Ex?

Why would Victor (Eric Braeden) rehire Natalie (Mara McCaffray) on ‘The Young and the Restless’? Why would Natalie choose to work for a man she doesn’t trust? This odd connection doesn’t make sense to many fans.

Earlier this year, Natalie’s lies about developmental progress with PassKey caused Victor to fire her. While the transplant from Switzerland eventually realized significant coin for her apparently game-changing protection software project, she claims to have blown her stash on a tech start-up and desperately needed employment. That sounds like an invented story on her part, or as fed to her by Victor.

Kevin (Greg Rikaart) coldly dumped Natalie shortly after he learned that Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) returned to town. Even though Natalie’s first love gave her the brush off, she decided to remain in Wisconsin. Then, as Y&R fans know, she disappeared from all episodes for a few months.

It’s not unprecedented, but unusual, that a recurring character would be retained after a brief stint seemed to end. Let’s be fair to McCaffray – she played her part well, but Natalie wasn’t crucial to life in Genoa City. So, there must be more to her backstory.

As in all other professions, impressions matter. So, the decision-makers at Y&R might simply like McCaffray, feel that she’s versatile and fills a demographic slot. It would be far too easy and unfair to suggest, without facts, that some hidden connections must be keeping this young actor in the cast on daytime’s number 1 rated scripted show.

Victor uses people. While he clearly reconnected with Natalie in order to access her computer skills, the ‘Moustache’ also seems to be expressing a personal fondness for this character that didn’t previously exist within his soul. So, considering the many romantic encounters Victor experienced through the years, it’s possible that Natalie is more than just a valuable employee. She might be the daughter of someone important, or even a biological link to the great man himself.
