‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Stabby Struggles to Survive – Abby Convinces Herself All is Lost With Stitch

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Stabby Struggles to Survive – Abby Convinces Herself All is Lost With StitchAbby (Melissa Ordway) didn’t have deep relationship experience on ‘The Young and the Restless’. She detested Ben (Sean Carrigan) when the first met. But, over time they became ‘Stabby’ and married. Yet, this super couple may have been doomed from the jump.

The legendary self-centeredness of this particular Newman child was only rivaled by Adam (most recently played by Justin Hartley). Viewers might agree that both characters were similarly self-involved, as compared to Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) who grew up together and were forced to collaborate. This particular point is key to ‘Stabby’s’ current day challenge.

It’s fully fair to raise questions about Ben’s fitness for marriage. However, much of that talk would be speculation, as his character has a shorter backstory. And, it would also be a diversionary tactic to point away from Abby when the problems, or perceived issues, within this union are considered.

Ben is divorced and his first wife held custody of their son. However, past revelations regarding him having taken the blame for his mother’s murderous actions served to reveal that he was actually a persecuted hero. When Jenna (Stephanie Lemelin) tragically died, Max (Jared Breeze) came to live with Ben. That poor boy’s unknown brain tumor caused him to repeatedly attack Abby. Eventually, Max’s actions led to the death of ‘Stabby’s’ unborn baby.

The loss of any child would test all relationships. Abby expressed genuine compassion for Max and Ben after that drama played out. Her mature behavior seemed to bode well for the future. But, then she convinced herself that there wasn’t enough chemistry for her marriage to survive.

The cliche, “It takes two to tango”, applies to all pairings. All reasonable minds will not solely blame Abby for whatever may develop negatively moving forward. At the same time it’s fair to believe that the growing pains she continues to experience in her first truly meaningful relationship are driving her feelings regarding the seeming end of this marriage. That’s a shame because both parties are good souls who should stay together.
