Sharon (Sharon Case) and Dylan (Steve Burton) have each other on ‘The Young and the Restless’, but they don’t have much else heading into Christmas. The Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) reveal left this super couple without Sully, then Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) opted to live with her dad as a result. Considering Burton’s final Y&R scenes will be shown in January, the New Year doesn’t look bright for these two characters.
Devoted viewers know who’s responsible for ‘Shylan’s’ current dilemma. For those who don’t here’s a short shimmy: Sharon learned that she was never pregnant and that her psychiatrist (Dr. Sandra Anderson, as played by Elizabeth Bogush) gave her Christian as part of a revenge scheme against Nick (Joshua Morrow). Patty (Stacy Haiduk) was key in discovering what Sandy did over a year ago and in forcing the truth to be exposed this fall.
As a result of the above, Nick (Joshua Morrow) took Christian. He also recently won a visitation hearing that bars Sharon and Dylan from having contact with his son. Obviously, these developments have strongly shaken ‘Shylan’s’ world. Since Dylan knew nothing about Sully’s true identity until recently his faith (no pun intended, well maybe just a little) in Sharon should have been shattered. Yet it wasn’t.
Dylan’s mature response to Sharon’s extended truth-withholding stance does fit with Burton’s character’s overall demeanor. However, if Burton had been scheduled to remain on Y&R indefinitely Dylan likely would have reacted differently. So, he hasn’t left Sharon, or divorced her even when she suggested that he do so in order to gain better legal standing where visitation issues were concerned.
Genoa City, most notably the Newman family, won’t ever forget what Sharon did. Dylan now is in the precarious position of not knowing if his mother (Nikki, as played by Melody Thomas Scott) feels greater loyalty to Nick, or to himself. And that final point may be the opening whereby Dylan decides to move on from Wisconsin, but soapy time will tell in this regard.
