‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Sharon Recognizes Dylan’s Mental Breakdown – Character Spirals, Sharon Offers Support

How many times has Sharon (Sharon Case) been tagged as a nut on ‘The Young and the Restless’? Yes, it is too many to count. Well, as part of what appears to be an evolution, Sharon recognized that Dylan (Steve Burton) hasn’t been able to handle the Sully-is-Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) fallout. That’s a mixed blessing that deserves exploration.

Generally, Sharon would be falling apart. One of many rescuers would be propping her up as part of some arc that painted her as demented, or close to it. However, Sharon has begun serving as a stabilizer this time around.

If Burton hadn’t filmed his final scenes earlier this month, then Dylan’s current dissent would be part of a building storyline. Instead, Y&R may be preparing this character’s write-out.

Sad might be the best word to describe Dylan walking out of the living room in the cottage then returning with Christian in his arms. But his actions weren’t part of a flashback scene, or the projection of a hoped-for future.

Dylan believed that he was holding Sully in his arms when he wasn’t. His use of that name earlier in the episode telegraphed his mind’s dysfunction.

It appears that within a short period of time Dylan will regress to such an extent that something dramatic will happen. Clearly the current storyline will be central to the manner in which this actor leaves the show and potentially has his character recast. Burton’s final scenes will appear during the month of January.

On the upside, Case’s character is dealing with this unique situation rather well. How she handles Dylan’s looming crisis and who she involves in doing so will surely prove crucial to Sharon’s immediate future and potential world without her husband.

Paul (Doug Davidson) recently assigned Dylan to an undercover case that’s believed to be very dangerous. The wisdom of the chief was rightly questioned by his wife Christine (Lauralee Bell.) Whether Paul loses another son can’t yet be known. But hopefully for everyone’s sake that isn’t how Burton’s final scene plays out.
