Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) still loves Jack (Peter Bergman) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Despite what she did and irregardless of her husband’s rightful feelings and reaction, Phyllis remains committed to maintaining her connection to Jack. One of ‘Red’s’ most brilliant responses in years continues to play out within Jabot’s corporate building, as the possibility of ‘Phack’ surviving persists.
Amoral individuals believed that ‘Philly’ was good. Bent personalities who believe that humans are nothing more than evolved animals promote vow-breaking as though it represents an inconsequential choice. In their realities, there is no right, or wrong. Instead, people should do whatever feels good. But, that outlook doesn’t actually represent a philosophy of life. Instead, it’s reflective of irrationality, at best. That’s why people who try to live by a set of proven principles refute such thinking and attempt to help misguided souls.
Phyllis wasn’t thinking straight when she used her free will, which is what human beings possess, to create a relationship with Billy (Jason Thompson). It’s normal for anyone to find another person to be attractive. But, depending upon the situation, acting on that impulse doesn’t reflect evolved thought. Instead, it represents an old-fashioned, me-first reaction. Michelle Stafford’s version of this character often, but not always, veered in that direction.
Jack’s acceptance of his wife’s divorce demand did feel like a soapy stretch. Some people, but certainly not all, would allow a spouse who’d betrayed them to remain in their family’s company. However, daytime drama fans understand that some plot points need to be written in order to further an overall storyline direction. And, that’s what’s playing out this fall on Y&R.
Whether ‘Phack’ is able to survive everything that’s happened isn’t known. But, Phyllis’ bold actions afford her an opportunity at eventual redemption. And, on some level, Jack is allowing his wife’s hopes to persist. Still reeling from the recent revelation that involved his wife and brother, he’s not ready to erase the woman that he still loves from his life.
