The day Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) was dreading arrived on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Jack (Peter Bergman) accepted her divorce counter offer and agreed to let her continue working at Jabot. Now, the requested documents have arrived, were signed by both parties and ‘Phack’ was legally erased as an active super couple.
She didn’t have much leverage. So, choosing to remain in close proximity to her now-ex-husband at least gives Phyllis something to hold onto. By retaining her employee status, ‘Red’ continues to retain the opportunity to influence Jack’s opinion each business day. However, the rapid finality that her choice delivered did hit home hard.
Jack was obviously affected by the climax to a heated drama that was spurned by Billy’s (Jason Thompson) relentless pursuit of Mrs. Abbott. Phyllis consequently knew that she had to follow through on her promise and then did. Her later trek through Chancellor Park, after signing said legal papers, served to reconfirm what viewers have been feeling for awhile.
It truly seems like Phyllis is sorry for the grave error in judgment she made. And, the entire situation appears to have given her a new perspective on what’s important in life. Yet, sometimes an egregious action creates consequences that simply can’t be overcome.
Meanwhile, Billy continues to hang around. He believes that he’ll outlast whatever remnants of emotion Phyllis has for Jack and become her only option. But, this gambler’s calculation constitutes extended risk. If he’s hedged his bet too far, Billy will have lost his brother and a chance at reconciliation with Vickie (Amelia Heinle) earlier this year. And, he may have already lost any chance to be with Phyllis ever again.
The full end of ‘Phack’ hasn’t quite been written. As long as Jack continues to allow his ex-wife to assist in his current attempt to crush Victor (Eric Braeden), he’s tacitly admitting that there’s a chance for some type of reunion. But, the question of love’s restoration isn’t at the top of Jack’s docket. His trust wasn’t fractured, it was cleanly broken. And, heart wounds don’t always heal completely.
