‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Philly Rightfully Ended – Phack’s Revival Tells Better Tale

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Philly Rightfully Ended – Phack's Revival Tells Better Tale‘Philly’ was an intriguing alternative to reality for awhile on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But ‘Phack’ simply makes more sense. As Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) continues to fight to win Jack (Peter Bergman) back, viewers can see that a better tale is being told.

Some attempt to lessen the importance of age-appropriate relationships. Sorry, that factor is evidenced in the majority of personal connections within human romance across the globe. Most people bond with others who fall within a similar age range. That point bleeds into past and current issues surrounding the characters within this part of Y&R’s passionate play.

If one didn’t know the characters, or their histories, Phyllis and Billy would fit together more easily on a visual level. But Y&R devotees do know the characters and their extensive backstories. That’s why so many fans clamored for ‘Philly’ to be avoided as soon as both characters began flirting with each other last year. Their pleas were obviously ignored and this super couple formed.

Jason Thompson (Billy) and Tognoni would be a more reasonably matched couple if all things were equal. However, ‘Philly’ began with the iconic Michelle Stafford (the original Phyllis) connecting with Bergman’s Jack back in the day. Bergman is 63, Stafford is 51, Tognoni will be 43 on November 28 and Thompson will be 40 on November 20. Numbers matter, but history matters more. So ‘Philly’ was rightfully dropped and ‘Phack’ appears to be working toward renewal.

Tognoni has been given an arc that affords an opportunity to revive ‘Red’s’ fighting spirit. In this instance, Phyllis is battling for something good. Redemption is inspiring and if achieved, will allow this character to move into likeable territory. That would be quite a growth spurt considering where Phyllis was as of the summer.

Bergman remains his stellar self. And Jack is a good guy at heart. Allowing him to inch toward forgiveness, while also retaining his dignity, fits this character’s personality.

If all goes well, Tognoni and Bergman could win Daytime Emmy Awards in their respective categories next year. Of course strong scripts will be required. If delivered, both actors seem primed to shine.

Philly is better than Phack in my opinion. There is much more chemistry between Gina and Jason than Gina and Peter. Phack may have been good when Stafford was playing Phyllis, but she is gone now. And so is the Phyllis/Jack relationship. The writers should be focusing on Billy and Phyllis.
