Patty (Stacy Haiduk) finally told someone about Sully on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Viewers in the United States saw her Halloween Day call to Nick (Joshua Morrow), while Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) looked on. The words Miss Williams frantically uttered surely will sound scary when Nick repeats them to Sharon (Sharon Case). But, to all others, her utterance played like sweet music.
Devoted Y&R viewers were wondering if they would get a “bag of rocks” on Halloween. That famous quote from ‘Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” underscores the suspicions some fans held about this extended arc’s reveal. But, having Patty tell Nick that Christian is still alive and that Sharon has him advances the storyline in an unexpectedly strong way.
Rather than have a key character overhear a tidbit of information Sharon may have shared with Mariah (Camryn Grimes), or run through a reveal scenario that’s been played out before, the writers got it right this time. Dylan (Steve Burton) was offered as the tease earlier in the same episode. But, Patty was interrupted by an orderly as she began to broach the Sully subject with him.
Patty’s humanity was rightfully reinforced when she told Dylan that she didn’t want to hurt him. He’s her nephew through Paul (Doug Davidson) and is an innocent party in this instance as she knows. Yes, Patty withheld information about Sully’s paternity until now and has been using it as leverage against Sharon. But she did the right thing by calling Nick.
The Underground setting was dusted off for this reveal to remind viewers where Sage (Kelly Sullivan) and Nick were often located during the early days of their courtship, if that word is still relevant in 2016. Then, after Chelsea talked Nick down from the emotional ledge he climbed onto, his cell phone rang.
How Patty once again gained access to a phone and somehow knew Nick’s number are logical issues that are overlooked by fans of this genre. Like the Great Pumpkin, the suspension of disbelief allows them to digest certain morsels as long as the main story satisfies their entertainment palate. Yes, the first served course of this Sully reveal was delicious. Now, onto the rest of the meal.
