‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Mariah Continues To Play Second Fiddle to Sharon – When Will she Live Her Own Life?

On The Young and the Restless Mariah (Camryn Grimes) needs to grow a backbone! The feisty twenty-something is content living day to day, enabling her delusional mother and coddling her ex-boyfriend.  What kind of life is that for a strong young woman who carved out a new identity in Genoa City after escaping from a toxic cult?

What happened to the snarky Mariah, who always had a zinger on her lips, and a snarly nickname for everyone? When was the last time she called Summer, “Snowflake!”

Instead, Mariah spends her days helping her mom Sharon (Sharon Case) cover up a messy baby snatching. Although Mariah is an experienced conman she seems oblivious to the danger of being an accessory to a felony.

Mariah has street smarts for days. If Chipmunk Bank Robber Kevin (Greg Rikaart) can join the GCPD, why can’t Mariah have a role, too? At least then she’d be earning a living and maybe some self-respect.

Speaking of Kevin, why oh why is she fine with being his sloppy seconds? This summer she took a back seat to that computer nerd Natalie, who openly dissed Mariah’s intelligence in front of Kevin.

Now, she’s watching as deceptive Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) moves in on her man.

Mariah is putting her life on hold for her loved ones, but she should ask herself if she’s being unselfish or stupid. Sharon has no qualms about using her daughter to break the law. Kevin doesn’t seem able to return her interest.

Mariah would be wise to ditch these two and strike out on her own. In fact, there’s a job opening in town that’s perfect for her. Wouldn’t she kill it as the next GC Buzz celebrity reporter? With her quick wit, smart mouth, and fearlessness, she could kick up every pot worth stirring in Genoa City!
