Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) has been a disaster on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But, various loved ones have clearly enabled his behavior. However, Jack (Peter Bergman), Vickie (Amelia Heinle) and Jill (Jess Walton) appear to have finally cut him loose.
Users feed off excuses. They blame those closest to them for events that are often their own fault. Then, eventually, when tough love is practiced, these misguided souls are given an opportunity to take ownership and control of their lives. Such is the present case of Billy-boy.
Vickie will always care about Billy and not just because he’s the father of two of her children. They were soul mates. Yet, that reality couldn’t conquer all. Eventually, Vickie happened upon Travis (Michael Roark) in Hank’s Dive Bar and her focus shifted. ‘Tricky’ isn’t stopping anytime soon and with that ‘Villy’ has become the past.
Jack meant it when he said he was done with his brother. Cavorting with Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) served to cut that chord. All of the second chances Jack gave Billy in past years weren’t enough to prevent him from creating a permanent divot in this family connection. Yes, John’s (Jerry Douglas) recent advice was heard. But, Jack needs time and distance before he’ll even consider a measured relationship with his destructive sibling.
Jill returned to the fabled Chancellor mansion with one goal in mind. She wanted to straighten her son out and then did everything that was possible, including wiping Billy’s blue mood from Katherine’s (Jeanne Cooper) walls. She put Vickie in Billy’s path at Brash and Sassy and confronted ‘Philly’. Neither tack worked, as her son continued to veer off the rails.
Viewers don’t know if Bella (Cali May Kinder) is actually Billy’s child. But, Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) appears to be working off that premise. Any Billy critique wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t include the full acknowledgment that he loves his children completely. So, the next chance this character has to possibly achieve redemption now seems to exist in the form of Delia’s (Sophie Pollono) sister.
