Billy’s mother, Jill Atkinson [Jess Walton] has been away dealing with business associated with Chancellor Industries. When she returns, she learns that her son has been spiraling out of control for quite some time.
At first, no one wanted to tell her what was happening with Billy. She begins to piece it together and learns that Billy started drinking again, and then he’s gambling, again—and it all started after his firing from Jabot and break up with Victoria Newman [Amelia Heinle]. Jill is furious with Jack for firing her son. She does not hold her tongue when ripping into him either.
Jill has a hard time forgiving Victoria for her role in Billy’s newest crisis. She likes Billy with her; however, Jill thinks that Victoria often bails on her son when it matters most. She blames her for leaving him when he really needed her, and she isn’t sure she can forgive her that. Victoria senses that Jill may need time with her son, and she allows her to talk and spend time with Billy alone in his hospital room. Jill begs Billy to wake up and tell her to shut up.

Once alone Jill begins to think about all the Abbotts that have deserted her son. At this point, she believes that the family hasn’t been concerned with her son for quite some time, and is furious they gave up on him. Jill realizes that Jack [Peter Bergman] has his own issues and Ashley [Eileen Davidson] was worried about other things. Billy slipped through the cracks yet again.
Outside the hospital room, Phyllis Abbott [Gina Tognoni] rips into Jack for abandoning his brother in his time of need. Phyllis feels bonded to Billy over the mess he’s created. She feels a kinship with him—and can relate to screwing up in such a huge way.
