‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Faith Makes Smart Choice – Nick and Shylan Must Learn Lesson

Allowing a child to dictate her living arrangements generally isn’t a good idea, but this is ‘The Young and the Restless’. And Faith’s (Alyvia Alyn Lind) parents have been playing games with each other for years. Due to her age, Faith is more aware of what’s going on and how it impacts her life. That’s why her choice to temporarily live at ‘Niktor’s’ house is wise.

Everyone can see that ‘Shylan’ needs time to recoup. Sharon’s (Sharon Case) terrible choice to keep Christian’s (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) identity a secret created a dramatic problem for the McAvoy’s and the Newman’s.

Nick (Joshua Morrow) was understandably thrown off-course when he learned that his son never died. However, like Sharon and Dylan (Steve Burton), he needs some space to handle his feelings.

Being without Faith should also allow Nick to fully focus on Christian. He’s not a single parent by choice, as Sage’s (Kelly Sullivan) death was a tragedy. That’s why the emotional manner in which he’s been reacting is understandable.

Kudos to Eric Braeden (Victor) and Lind for recent warmhearted scenes that showed a loving grandfather consoling his granddaughter. Sally Sussman’s team wrote those moments with the right touch of tenderness and realism, as many grandparents could attest. Having to intervene in their grown children’s family circumstances is a modern phenomena. Said situations also fully expose the fallout of me-firstism that has infected the so-called advanced world since at least the 1960’s.

Soap operas used to be a forum where relatable topics were routinely explored. But a certain ideological bent has overshadowed Hollywoodland for awhile now. Various attempts to portray family dysfunction as normal have been obvious. Yes, daytime drama can still be a media vehicle that promotes problem resolution, instead of excessive conflict.

Faith may live at the Ranch House for an extended period. However, the coming change in the Dylan character will likely impact that plot decision. If Burton’s character is killed off, Faith is sure to comfort her mother. If Mr. McAvoy is recast, then Nick could regain his little girl. Additional options could also be invented in order to resolve this realistic conflict as well.
