Dylan (Steve Burton) can’t possibly stay with Sharon (Sharon Case) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Not only was he betrayed, but now he’s hearing slack from his wife about why the Sully (Jamie and Alister Tobias) lie was told. As the smoke clears from this storyline bombshell Dylan will have a major life decision to make.
It seems hard to imagine that Burton’s character will choose to stay with his wife. Why would he? He loves her, yes. But that emotional verb surely appears to be shifting, or has already shifted to the past tense.
‘Shylan’ doesn’t have a deep history. Now, they also don’t have a child. So there’s no longstanding connection to fall back on, or realistic hope that current feelings will be ironed out through reconciliation. A divorce or a separation could easily be written into upcoming scripts.
Burton recently announced his voluntary departure from Y&R’s cast. The long-time soap veteran has performed well since arriving in 2013. Yes, Dylan doesn’t match the persona (Jason Morgan) he embodied for more than two decades on ‘General Hospital’. However, Burton was obviously interested in playing against type when he agreed to play act in the fictional world of Genoa City. His choice proved to be smart.
Just because Burton is departing doesn’t mean that Dylan will be leaving the show. Confirmation will be forthcoming regarding Mr. McAvoy’s immediate future by the turn of the year at the latest. Y&R’s writing staff will soon reveal the building plans toward this actor’s farewell.
Dylan is a sensitive soul who values honor and integrity. Sharon demonstrated neither quality when she chose to keep Christian’s true paternity secret. If her hand hadn’t been forced by Patty (Stacy Haiduk) it’s fair to wonder if Sharon would have ever come clean to anyone other than Mariah (Camryn Grimes).
All indicators naturally point toward Dylan leaving Sharon shortly, then filing for divorce. If he doesn’t fully sever ties, it’s possible that he’ll leave town for awhile. Avery (Jessica Collins) is certainly someone whose personal counsel he’d be open to seeking, unless he also chooses to stay with her indefinitely.
