Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) has a lot to think about on ‘The Young and the Restless’. She truly needs her husband’s input, but Adam (most recently played by Justin Hartley) isn’t available. Choosing to keep the secret of Christian’s paternity will likely create future trouble for many people, including herself. But divulging the truth would also hurt people Chelsea cares about.
Victor (Eric Braeden) made a good point earlier in the week when he told his daughter-in-law that Adam probably would want Nick (Joshua Morrow) to raise Christian right now. A considered view of what the ‘Moustache’ said also recognizes that Adam asked his brother to look out for Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois) if he was going to remain in jail for awhile. However, if Adam had been freed would he have wanted the biological link between himself and Christian to remained concealed?
Savvy fans of Y&R know that Adam moved Heaven and Earth to return to Genoa City. He risked his freedom in order to reestablish his life with Chelsea and Connor. It’s possible that if Adam had remained behind bars that he would have allowed Nick to raise Christian, as revealing the paternity link might have been seen as cruel. Yet, it seems hard to imagine that Adam would remain silent about his second-born son’s paternity if he had eventually regained his freedom.
If Chelsea says nothing and Nick later learns the truth, then he’s likely to put her in the same liar’s box as Sharon (Sharon Case). He’ll cite a betrayal of trust and probably invoke Adam’s memory as evidence that she should have told him. Plus, Chelsea is currently reflecting upon what she did to Dylan (Steve Burton) when she initially told him that Connor was his child. Chelsea knows who would be hurt and how those people would likely respond to either choice that she makes, which further frustrates her attempts to make an ethical decision.
A DNA test is likely to result if Chelsea tells Nick what Adam shared with her in the past. That scientific clarification might then result in Nick loosing Christian in a different way this time around. But Chelsea probably isn’t considering that Nick still might be confirmed as Christian’s true father. Yes, Adam admitted to bribing a DNA laboratory technician to make a past test result indicate that Nick was Christian’s father. But, this is a soap opera world and any fact can be adjusted when necessary.
